ADHESIVE BACKED TAPES

Atlantic Gasket Corporation is a leading manufacturer of industrial single-sided and double-sided foam and sponge tape of different strengths. Foam and sponge tapes can be used for countless OEM tasks including mounting, fastening, sealing, joining, splicing, cushioning and insulation. Application is easy; simply remove the release liner and press tape in place.

Types of Foam and Sponge Tape Configurations Include:

Single-Sided Foam and Sponge Tape – has adhesive on one side of the tape material. Single-sided foam and sponge tape is used in applications that require the ability to bond to a single object.

Double-Sided Foam and Sponge Tape – has adhesive on both sides of the tape material. Double-sided foam and sponge tape is used in applications that require the ability to bond two objects together or the tape to a fixed object. Different adhesives can be applied to different sides of the tape material.

Types of Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives Include:

Rubber Based

Advantages

• Excellent tack and adhesion

• Bonds well to most surfaces

• Achieves ultimate adhesion quickly

• Economically priced

Disadvantages

• Poor elevated temperature resistance

• Fair chemical, U.V., and oxidation resistance

Acrylic Based

Advantages

• Good temperature resistance

• Good chemical, U.V., and oxidation resistance

• Re-positionable

Disadvantages

• Low initial bond strength, but builds over time

• More expensive then rubber based

Other adhesives such as silicone, ultra high adhesion, and heat-activated adhesives may also be employed for specialized applications. It is important that we know as much as possible about the proposed use if we are to participate in helping select the optimum adhesive. For instance, we typically ask customers what is the application and environment under which the adhesive must perform? will the adhesive be functional after use? and will additional means of fastening be employed?
