Solid Rubber
Elastomeric materials exhibit a wide range of properties achieved by variations
in composition formulas. Proper product selection is critical in most
applications.

Open & Closed Cell Sponge Rubber
Both types are classified as sponge rubber, but exhibit different mechanical
and physical properties. Each is available in several densities and durometers,
and polymer variations provide a wide range of gasketing applications.
Closed cell sponge adhesive -- backed tapes are excellent in dust and
moisture sealing applications. Open cell sponge has very good resistance
to compression set, and has been used for mouse pads and other non-slippage
applications.

Vulcanized Fibres
Commercial grades are strong, lightweight, tear-resistant materials suitable
for a wide variety of electrical and mechanical applications. Electrical
insulation grades (fish paper) or other UL recognized alternatives to
vulcanized fibre, offer excellent dielectric strength and formability
for electrical and electronic applications. Normal thickness range is
.005 to .062"
Foam
There are many foamed materials available - diverse in their chemical
composition and mechanical properties. Some of the most common types used
for gaskets and other die-cut parts are:
Cellular Urethane - High
density, stable foams offering strength, low compression set and dimensional
stability - often used in shock control and cushioning applications.
Normal thickness range is 1/32 to 1/2".
Polyolefins - Cross linked
polyethylene closed cell foams, as well as other similar constructions,
are economical and suitable for many applications. They are low density
(2 - 12 PCF), high strength to weight ratio, moisture-resistant materials
with a wide range of mechanical properties and colors. Thickness range
of 1/32 " to 1" depending on specific type of foams.
Polyurethane - Polyester and
Polyether formulations are typically 2 or 4 PCF. charcoal gray foams
in thicknesses from 1/16 " to 3". Used for dust seals, filters,
sound deadening and many other applications.
PVC - General purpose, closed
cell foam with good air, moisture and dust sealing properties, plus
UV and chemical resistance. Density range of 6 to 25 PCF, thickness
from 1/32 to 1".
Plastics
Atlantic fabricates most major categories of plastic films and sheets,
including polyester polycarbonate, vinyl, polyethylene, polyproplene,
polystyrene, Teflon® and others. Applications include faceplates,
insulators, lenses and shims.
Felt & Fabrics
Felt, both SAE industrial wool felts, as well as 100% polyesters and blends,
maintain usage in many industrial applications as well as decorative pads
and backing in consumer applications. Colored felt shapes are often furnished
with self-adhesive backing. Industrial and Commercial fabrics including
plush pile synthetics with backing and a wide variety of non-woven materials
are currently available at Atlantic Gasket.
Asbestos Replacement
Typical formulations use organic and inorganic fibers, polymer bound,
to provide long-term durability and stability in demanding gasketing applications.
They are reinforced to promote crush resistance, torque retention and
sealability through a range of parameters, including high temperature
and high pressure applications throughout the automotive, appliance, industrial
maintenance and related fields.
