Closed Cell
Epichlorohydrin (ECH)

The excellent chemical resistance, excellent oil resistance and extreme temperature range of closed cell Epichlorohydrin (also known as ECH) rubber allows this gasket and sealing material to be used in many automotive and industrial applications. The versatility of ECH sponge rubber is demonstrated by an excellent resistance to the following: alcohols; halogenated solvents; aliphatic, aromatic, and chlorinated hydrocarbons; petroleum-based, silicate ester, and water/glycol hydraulic fluids; and many other solvents. Atlantic Gasket Corporation is a leading gasket manufacturer with extensive experience in producing sealing gaskets for an assortment of commercial and industrial applications. Our gasket engineering department will help you choose the best material for your end application.

Example Gasket Application Properties

Automotive Gaskets

Due to its resistance to ozone, chemicals and oils, this gasket and seal material is a good gasket material for under-the-hood automotive applications.

Weatherproofing Gaskets

With a good resistance to weather, ozone, sunlight, and oxidation, closed cell ECH sponge rubber is ideal in extreme outdoor applications.

Will ECH rubber perform well in your sealing application? The answer can be found below.

•Does your application involve low temperatures? If so, Epichlorohydrin sponge rubber works well in applications where temperatures are as low as -20° F. At low temperatures, ECH shows excellent aging characteristics, high resiliency, and flexibility.

•Does your application involve high temperatures exceeding 300° F? If so, ECH sponge rubber performs well as a gasket or seal in applications where temperatures can reach to 325° F.

At Atlantic Gasket Corporation, ECH is available in four densities: R-471-E (15 pcf); R-472-E (18 pcf); R-473-E (22 pcf); and R-475-E (27 pcf). R-471-E, R-472-E, and R-475-E are available in sheets 36” wide by 42” long, while R-473-E is available in sheets 45” wide by 50” long. ECH can also be supplied in rolls 36”, 42”, and 45” wide.  This gasket and sealing material is available in thicknesses ranging from 1/16” up to 1”, can be supplied with an adhesive backing on one or both sides, and can be custom die cut to any size or shape. Contact Atlantic Gasket and our gasket engineering department will help you determine if ECH is the right material for your application or if another gasket material might be better suited to your needs.
