Gasket Corporation stocks both sponge and foam materials, which
exhibit different mechanical and physical properties. Each is available
in several densities, and polymer variations that make them suitable
for diverse applications from gaskets,
seals, spacers and cabinet bumpers
to adhesive backed tapes just
to mention a few of the most common uses. Read on or contact Atlantic
Gasket directly for more information on the material specifications
for sponge and foam.
This material offers good resistance to acid, alkali,
gasoline, and oil. Neoprene can be supplied in 9 and 16# densities.
This sponge material offers excellent ozone resistance
and performs well in applications where temperatures can range from
-90 to 275°F. EPDM can be supplied in 12 and 16# densities.
This material offers excellent fuel resistance and
excellent UV resistance and performs well in applications where
temperatures can range from 40 to +200°F. Nitrile is supplied
in 14# density.
This type of silicone offers excellent sealing qualities,
plus compression set, flame, ozone, and UV resistances. This high-end
material is widely used for demanding applications and is excellent
for applications that will be exposed to extreme temperatures ranging
from 103 to 450°F. Our Silicone material is available
from soft to extra firm densities in orange/red, black, gray, and
white colors.
This material offers excellent fuel resistance and
performs well in applications where temperatures can range from
70 to +275°F. ECH is supplied in 15# density.
This sponge material offers excellent resistance to
acid, alkali, ozone, and ketones. This blend can be supplied in
2, 4, and 8# densities and performs well in applications where temperatures
can range from 70 to +160°F.
This blend is an excellent general-purpose material
designed to seal out water, dust, and air. This material is available
in soft, medium, and firm densities.
This blend offers excellent resistance to acid, gasoline,
oil, and ozone. This blend can be supplied in 4, 5, 6, 7, and 13#
densities and performs well in applications where temperatures can
range from 40 to +160°F.
This material blend offers good chemical resistance
and is fire-rated. This blend can be supplied in 4, 6, and 8# densities
and performs well in applications where temperatures can range from
40 to +200°F.
This material is excellent for cushioning applications
as well as applications that require a skid resistant surface and
is available in soft, medium, medium firm, firm, and extra firm
densities. The major advantage of this material is that it does
not take a compression set.
Neoprene Open Cell Sponge
This sponge material has all the same features of
the natural open cell sponge, but works well in applications that
may come in contact with petroleum-based products. This material
also meets various military and ASTM specifications including Mil-R-6130,
Mil-C-3133, and Mil STD 670 and is available in soft, medium, and
medium/firm densities.
In addition to the wide range of sponge materials,
Atlantic Gasket has many foam materials available that are diverse
in their chemical composition and mechanical properties. Some of
the most common types used for gaskets and other die cut parts are:
This foam is economical and suitable for many applications.
With a general thickness range of 1/32 to 1, this material
has a low density (2-12 PCF), high strength to weight ratio, resistance
to moisture, and a wide range of mechanical properties and colors.
This foam material is available in Polyester and Polyether
formulations that are typically 2 or 4 PCF. Charcoal gray in color,
these foams come in thicknesses from 1/16" to 3 and can
be used for dust seals, filters, sound deadening and many other
applications.
This foam is a high density, stable foam that offers
strength, low compression set, and dimensional stability. With a
normal thickness range is 1/32 to 1/2, cellular urethane
foam is used in shock control and cushioning applications.
PVC Foam
This foam material is a general-purpose closed cell
foam with good air, moisture, and dust sealing properties, plus
UV and chemical resistance. Density range of 6 to 15 PCF, thickness
from 1/32 to 1.
