In addition to solid rubber,
foam, and sponge, Atlantic Gasket Corporation stocks a variety of
other materials such as plastics, vulcanized fibers, cellulose fibers,
plant fibers, felt and fabric, as well as composition cork and cork
rubber. Based on the physical and mechanical properties of each
material, our design engineers can help determine the one that will
work best. Contact Atlantic Gasket and let us know your application
requirements.
Plastics
Plastics are available in most major categories of
films and sheets for applications such as faceplates, insulators,
lenses and shims. Atlantic Gasket fabricates custom gaskets and
die-cut parts from plastics including:
• Polycarbonate (Lexan®)
• Polyester (Mylar®)
• High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
• Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
• Teflon®
• Polypropylene
• Polystyrene
• Vinyl (Rigid and Flexible)
• Acetal
• Polyethylene Terephthalate-Glycol (PETG)
This material is strong, lightweight, and tear-resistant
which makes it suitable for a wide variety of electrical and mechanical
applications. Electrical insulation grades (fishpaper) or other
UL recognized alternatives to vulcanized fiber, offer excellent
dielectric strength and formability for electrical and electronic
applications. Normal thickness range is .005 to .062".
Cellulose
Fiber
This material provides long-term durability and stability
in demanding gasketing applications. Typical formulations use organic
and inorganic fibers, are bound by polymers, and reinforced to promote
crush resistance, torque retention and sealability through a range
of parameters, including high-temperature and high-pressure applications
throughout the automotive, appliance, industrial maintenance and
related fields.
This material is also known as vegetable fiber. It
is a strong, flexible, general-purpose material for applications
up to 250°F. Normal thickness range is .006 to .125.
Felt
SAE wool felts and commercial craft felt, as well
as Fabric, 100% polyesters and blends, maintain usage in many industrial
applications as well as decorative pads and backing in consumer
applications. Colored felt shapes are often furnished with self-adhesive
backing. Industrial and Commercial fabrics including plush pile
synthetics with backing and a wide variety of non-woven materials
are currently available at Atlantic Gasket.
This material is lightweight and stable exhibiting
compressibility and moisture resistance, while Cork Rubber
is cork bonded to a variety of polymeric rubber elastomers and exhibits
good oil, fuel, and heat resistance. Composition cork is popular
for many consumer product applications and is often supplied with
a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. Cork rubber is used for sealing
a friction application, particularly automotive, pump, and meter
applications.
