Atlantic Gasket Adds Additional AMS & MIL Spec Silicones & Fluorosilicones

Atlantic Gasket is adding additional silicone and fluorosilicone rubber products to its material portfolio! The silicone rubbers added to our website will meet requirements specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and meet various AMS (Aerospace Material Specification) specs. These include AMS 3301, AMS 3302, AMS 3303, AMS 3304, AMS 3304, AMS 3305, AMS 3195, AMS 3196, AMS 3315, AMS 3320, AMS 3345, AMS 3347, AMS 3348, and AMS 3349. The silicone rubbers have the ability to resist a range of ambient conditions such as weathering, petroleum-based lubricating oils, extreme temperatures, and more.

Additionally, Atlantic Gasket is also adding multiple fluorosilicone rubber products as well, and these rubbers meet the MIL-DTL-25988C specification for various types and grades. These include Type 1 and 2 along with Grade 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80. The MIL-DTL-25988C specification refers to a range of fluorosilicone products like o-rings, compression seals, molded parts, extruded shapes, sheets, and strips.

Furthermore, Atlantic Gasket has also added a few other products such as AG-3686 low outgas/low temperature silicone specializing in spacecraft applications, AG-613-55LT conductive silicone that meets ASTM E595 low outgassing requirements and withstands extremely low temperatures, and AG21431 premium grade Viton™ that meets the Viton™ GF specification. Just like all of our sponges, rubbers, plastics, and other materials, these added rubbers will be available in custom-cut parts, sheets, rolls, and a variety of thicknesses.

Atlantic Gasket has the ability to die-cut, waterjet-cut, and knife-cut any of these new products to your custom-cut need for parts. We look forward to helping you out with your next project!

What to Know About 3M Reclosable Fasteners

As a 3M Associate Converter, Atlantic Gasket has access to a wide array of tens of thousands of 3M products from a multitude of categories.  Within this massive list of products is a series of fasteners that we can supply for our customers.  These fasteners come in two types, Dual Lock and Hook and Loop, and are meant for easy and reliable attachment and detachment which allows for a quick and easy use.

Hook and loop fasteners are an easy and secure way to adhere a product to aImage of partly separated 3M™ Hook and Loop identifying the hooks, loops, release liners and easy-peel edge surface while also allowing for it to be unsecured and resecured many times over.  This fastener has the ability to be resecured upward of 5,000 times without losing effectiveness throughout its lifetime.  It works with one side having many ‘hooks’ that are opposite the other side containing seemingly endless amounts of ‘loops’.  When this 3M fastener is pushed together, the loops catch within the hooks allowing for a strong, temporary bond which is useful in many applications, such as clothing, shoes, household items, signage, sports, NASA, and many more where ease of use and conforming to product shape is needed!

The 3M Dual Lock system for fasteners works a bit differently but is just as effective or more than hook and loop.  Each side is made up of a large number of3M™ Dual Lock™ Reclosable Fastener SJ3870 mushroom-shaped pieces that interlock together when both sides are attached.  This forms a very strong bond that is durable and allows for upward of 1,000 attachments before starting to lose its tensile strength.  3M Dual Lock fasteners are temperature/UV/moisture-resistant and are excellent for use with attachments to windshields, dashboards, signs, and other surfaces.

Atlantic Gasket Increases Slitting Capabilities

Atlantic Gasket has spent decades slitting and stripping a wide array of materials to our customer’s needs from ¼” to 60” wide, but now, we’ve added a new slitting machine to our fleet which further increases our capacity for orders requiring slitting of any kind.  We’re always looking into how we can make our manufacturing process more efficient, and this addition is just the latest in that search.  Our new single-knife slitter, from Lever, allows us to cut larger roll diameters and perform a cleaner cut.  The ability for us to continue to provide exceptional non-metallic roll goods just got better!

This new slitting machine allows us to continue cutting the same materials that we have been cutting for years to a much higher capacity, such as rubber, sponge, foam, adhesives/tapes, plastics/films, cork, and more.  Our slitting capabilities were already versatile and of high-quality, but our new machine just broadens the horizon and allows for more perfect cuts and the ability for quicker lead times to get stripping products into our valued customer’s hands.

You Need Holes? We’ve Got ‘Em!

Circle with Many Holes 8

We’ve cut several of these gaskets out of 1/8” thick 55 durometer Viton on our water jet machine.  What was the catch?  We had to put 242 holes and ovals into this 14 ¼” diameter piece.

However, it was no issue for our water jet machine and production line!  Our water jet machine can hold tight tolerances and cut a nearly infinite amount of different cutout dimensions and shapes.

Atlantic Gasket Continues to Produce Comfortable Face Shields in a Variety of Sizes

Face Shields
Since the start of our nation’s battle against the COVID-19 virus, Atlantic Gasket has been working to produce over a million face shields for our front-line workers! Now, as kids and teenagers prepare to return to the classroom, we’ve expanded our product line of face shields to adjust to a variety of sizes for the ever-growing child for their added comfort and safety.

People of all ages and sizes are susceptible to the coronavirus, unfortunately, and this has led us to want to continue our small part of fighting against it. Our face shields can now be produced in sizes that fit toddlers, grade school age kids, high school teenagers, and adults! This range of sizes allows for children of all ages to be properly protected across their entire face while allowing them to maneuver around the classroom and school as comfortably and safely as possible.

Of course, safety and comfort are our biggest concerns, but our face shields also provide a wide range of other benefits. The face shields are made from lightweight and durable plastic with soft foam cushioning on the forehead to provide a comfortable experience wearing them. They allow others to see your face and hear you better during conversation which is crucial in a school setting. Children are known to spread germs without a thought, and shields protect the entire face with coverage against outside liquids and contaminants. Finally, our face shield allows the wearer to eat and drink while their face remains protected.

If you are in charge of a school district or know somebody who is and is in need of face shields for the coming school year or in need of protection in any setting against COVID-19, please don’t hesitate to contact our sales team that would be more than happy to help protect your children, teenagers, and even adults in some cases!

Atlantic Gasket Revamps Site with EMI/RFI Products

SSP-502-30 Roll Material (4)Atlantic Gasket continues to keep up with the growing demands of different markets, and this time, we’ve revamped our website with a new section for EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) shielding materials.  These silicone and fluorosilicone rubbers are filled with a variety of metallic fillers to allow them to be electrically conductive and protect sensitive electronic equipment and other products.  These fillers include Nickel-Aluminum, Nickel-Graphite, Silver-Aluminum, Silver-Copper, Silver-Glass, and Silver-Nickel.

IMG_5645EMI & RFI shielding gaskets are important in serving a range of industries, such as military, aerospace, automotive, medical, and more.  We can provide silicones and fluorosilicones that meet the MIL-G-83528/MIL-DTL-83528 specification and others that are QPL listed.  Our EMI/RFI materials come in a wide variety of thicknesses, durometers, sheet sizes, rolls, and colors to help suit your needs.  This variety allows us to provide a range of die-cut parts, waterjet-cut parts, stripping, roll goods, sheets, and more.

The EMI/RFI silicones and fluorosilicones not only protect against electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference but also the typical environmental factors, such as silicone’s natural resistance to a large temperature range.  For harsh environments with solvents and fuels, fluorosilicone is the answer to your issues.  The combination of the rubber along with the internal metallic fillers allows these EMI/RFI shielding materials to be a fantastic option for protecting sensitive equipment for your next project!

Individually Die Cut Vs. Kiss Cut Products

Have you ever tried pulling a sticker off of the liner and noticed the ease with which you were able to do so?  That’s because the sticker was kiss cut instead of being individually die cut.  The difference between these two processes is how the stickers are cut.

Now you can forget the sticker part of the equation and apply that thinking to our own custom cut parts with pressure-sensitive adhesive here at Atlantic Gasket.  These products include gaskets, cabinet bumpers, coaster corks, and many other materials suited for your needs.

When individually cut, a die within our machines stamps out the part needed into its final form cutting through both the material and adhesive liner (as shown below).  This produces the final product cut to shape along with the adhesive and release liner all cut to that same form.  This can sometimes cause a hassle during the final application with trying to peel away the liner.

However, kiss cutting takes away that annoyance.  The die will cut the material and adhesive but leave the full adhesive liner intact allowing the final applicator to peel away the part easily like a sticker.  The excess webbing of material is removed which leaves behind the final form of the part on a full sheet of release liner (as shown below).  This makes the final application a breeze!
