Laminating

Atlantic produces a wide range of adhesive backed products. Our laminating machines apply pressure-sensitive adhesives to roll and sheet materials, utilizing heat and pressure to achieve a permanent bond.

Depending on customer requirements and the nature of the material to be laminated, we can apply rubber, acrylic and silicone-based adhesives. These adhesives can be un-supported (free-film) or supported, utilizing polyester, tissue or fabric carriers to provide strength to the laminated product. Adhesives with carriers permit the use of a different adhesive on each side of the carrier, providing optimum bonding, to both the substrate material and the ultimate application material or surface.

There are many configurations of pressure sensitive adhesive. The most common are:
  • Single-coated — an adhesive is applied to one side of the material which can then be adhered to various substrates. Common examples would be drafting tape, duct tape and packing tape.
  • Double-coated — adhesive is applied to both sides of a carrier material which provides strength and the ability to bond two substrates together. An outer protective liner, usually a coated paper is removed to allow a typical “peel and stick” to the object material or surface.
  • Transfer-tape — also used to bond two substrates together, but without a carrier. This configuration provides better conformability to irregular surfaces. These products often utilize a heavier coat weight of an aggressive adhesive to facilitate a good bond.
We can apply these adhesives to virtually any material:
  • Solid elastomer (rubber) such as neoprene, EPDM, Buna-N (nitrile), silicone, viton, butyl and hypalon.
  • Plastics, including polycarbonate, HDPE, LDPE, polypropylene, teflon, vinyl and polystyrene
  • Open and Closed Cell sponge, plus urethane and polyurethane foams.
  • Plant fiber, vulcanized fiber and fishpaper
  • Compressed fiber high performance, temperature resistant gasket materials.
  • Cork, cork-rubber, felt and many other products.

We can laminate rolls and sheets up to 60" in width, applying adhesive to one or both sides.
