Typical Properties of 2A Volara

Description: VOLARA 2A is a general purpose cross-linked polyethylene foam (XLPE) which combines low cost with a wide range of material properties. As a closed cell foam, VOLARA 2A can be used in many gasketing applications to seal against dust, air and water. Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is resistant to a wide range of chemicals and VOLARA 2A has low water absorption. White 2A has FDA accepted materials, allowing it to be used in food packaging applications. VOLARA has a smooth skin, making it popular in specialty packaging and is commonly used as the foam in foam backed adhesive tapes. This XLPE material is often used as flooring underlay, gap filler in construction projects and electrical outlet insulation. Cross-linked polyethylene foam is a common material in the HVAC and lighting industries. VOLARA 2A has a Thermal Conductivity of .25, making it excellent insulation and has a service temperature of -40° F to +160° F. VOLARA 2A meets the Federal FMVSS-302 burn rating, if UL 94 HF-1 is required, 2AF should be used. If more tensile or tear strength are required, VOLARA’s 4 and 6 # densities might be an alternative.

VOLARA is available in many styles and thicknesses. The most common are 2A, 2AF, 4A and 6A. The EO grades are suited to medical and food applications, but typically require large minimums. Generally VOLARA densities go up as thickness goes down: 2# density (2A and 2AF) is common in 1/8" thickness, 4# density (4A) in 1/16th and 6# density (6A) in 1/32” thicknesses.

VOLARA is easily fabricated. VOLARA can be die cut by many methods, including high speed rotary kiss cutting. It can be laminated to different adhesives, such as rubber and acrylic based pressure sensitive adhesives. VOLARA 2A can be provided in full rolls up to 60” wide, or slit rolls as narrow as ¼", in thicknesses from .08" to .50" (thinner gauges require higher densities). We can die cut or waterjet cut parts to your exact specifications.
